Lotje studied Dutch law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 1975 to the end of 2019 she worked as a lawyer, and has occupied different positions within the Netherlands Bar Association (NOvA), amongst others as deputy dean. As per the 1st of January 2020 Lotje works with the firm as a counsel and mediator.
Lotje focuses on mediation in healthcare, in collaboration with Romke Wybenga. Her extensive experience as a lawyer and mediator in the healthcare sector, has convinced her of the importance of mediation in healthcare. Conflict resolution through mediation prevents tensions and escalation and greatly benefits patient care.
In addition to her legal work, she has worked as university lecturer in forensic psychiatry and health law at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Lotje served as chair of the Child Care and Protection Board (RvdK), was a member of the Council for the Administration of Criminal Justice and Protection of Juveniles (RSJ) and a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal of The Hague. Lotje was chair of the Regional Euthanasia Review Committiees.
